The “Osta noort kunsti” (Buy Young Art) autumn exhibition has opened at the Art & Tonic gallery in Tallinn. Visitors can see work by 88 young Estonian artists free of charge. The exhibition ends with the traditional young art auction on 23 October.
Nearly 400 works by 203 artists were submitted to this year’s autumn exhibition, and the jury selected the work of 88 artists. According to Reigo Kuivjõgi, organiser of “Osta noort kunsti” and gallerist at Art & Tonic, this year’s selection stands out for the high quality and diversity of the works. “I am pleased that this time the selection includes more completely new artists than usual, who will make their debut at the autumn auction. This also makes the exhibition particularly interesting, as young artists with very different styles and approaches have come together under one roof,” says Kuivjõgi.
Now held for the eleventh time, the “Osta noort kunsti” exhibition and auction gives young artists the opportunity to present their work to a wider audience, while also bringing Estonian young art closer to enthusiasts and buyers. “This year’s selection is truly diverse and offers the chance to explore different artistic media, as in addition to painting, it also includes printmaking, drawing, collage, photography and sculpture. The price levels of the works also vary greatly, starting from just one euro. With young art, there is always something for everyone, from the experienced collector to the first-time art buyer,” explains Kuivjõgi.
Art-loving entrepreneur and Invego CEO Kristjan-Thor Vähi, who took part in the selection process as a member of the jury, notes that due to the high quality of the works, choosing from among the candidates was quite a difficult task. “The work of Estonian young artists shows many different approaches and truly fresh ideas, and I really like that they dare to experiment. The exhibition offers a good opportunity to get to know their work more closely and see what our young artists are currently working on,” says Vähi, who is himself a great enthusiast of Estonian young art.
According to Vähi, initiatives such as “Osta noort kunsti” are important for young artists so that their work reaches a wider audience beyond art circles. “When an artist is at the beginning of their creative path and still little known, such an opportunity to show their work is very important. It is important that Estonian young art is visible and accessible, and the more young art reaches the public, the more courage people will have to buy it and thereby support local artists,” says Vähi.
The “Osta noort kunsti” autumn exhibition at the Art & Tonic gallery is open daily until 22 October from 12:00 to 18:00 and is free for visitors. All works on display will go to a public auction, which takes place on 23 October at 18:00 at the Art & Tonic gallery and simultaneously online.
